“Friendly Frog” Homework
I
believe homework is an important step in the learning process. By
completing homework, students are practicing/enhancing skills and concepts they have already learned at school.
Homework in first grade is not independent practice. It is meant to be done in conjunction with a grown-up.
1.) Paper Packet
* Students will be responsible for a weekly homework packet. The packet will include nightly reading, fluency, comprehension, and word work.
* The whole packet will be due on FRIDAY.
* Please keep the packet together. (Don't send back one paper at a time.)
* Please check over each paper to make sure it has been done correctly and that no sections have been skipped.
2.) Vocabulary Words
* These words will be glued in your child's "Vocabulary Flipbook."
* Please have your child practice the new AND old words every evening by identifying them and using them in sentences.
* Please have your child return his/her flipbook to school on THURSDAY.
3.) Math and Reading Websites
* Your child will receive log-in information for firstinmath.com AND Raz-Kids.com.
* These two sites are wonderful practice and should be utilized frequently from home.
* Please have your child return his/her flipbook to school on THURSDAY.
4.) Reading Logs ("Book-It")
* Your child will bring home a "Book-It Reading Log" at the beginning of each month (EXCEPT September).
* You will read 10 books to your child (or your child will read to you).
* On each reading log, you will write the titles, sign it, and return it at the end of the month (or sooner).
* You can write the same title on the "nightly reading log" as you had written on the "Book-It" reading log.
Reading and being read to will increase your child's reading fluency, as well as his/her comprehension.
